Job Title: WordPress Tech Lead
Type: Remote
Working Hours: 2:00 AM – 10:00 AM Pacific Time, Monday–Friday
We’re looking for a highly experienced and hands-on WordPress Tech Lead to guide and support our development team. This role is both technical and leadership-driven — ideal for someone who can architect scalable solutions, provide strategic guidance, and resolve complex technical challenges.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the senior-most technical authority on all WordPress-related projects
- Provide architectural direction, code review, and technical mentorship to the development team
- Act as the “developer of last resort” for critical bugs, performance issues, and outages
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of WordPress infrastructure
- Enforce development standards and best practices across all WordPress workstreams
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end technical solutions
REQUIRED EXPERTISE
Core Technical Skills:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins
- Expert-level proficiency in:
- PHP, SQL, MVC, OOP
- WordPress API & REST API
- ACF & ACF Blocks
- JavaScript (vanilla, jQuery, AJAX)
- Node.js, npm, Gulp
- SCSS, Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS
- Composer
- Git (command line): merging, conflict resolution, rebasing
- Site optimization, debugging, performance tuning (Lighthouse scores)
- Translating design into pixel-perfect, responsive frontends
- Integrating 3rd-party APIs and JSON
- Emergency recovery and troubleshooting
Infrastructure & Tools:
- Advanced knowledge of: SSH, Jira
- Working knowledge of: CI/CD pipelines, Linux command line tools, Docker and Kubernetes
SOFT SKILLS & LEADERSHIP
- Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to lead through complexity and prioritize effectively
- Proven track record of managing technical direction within Agile teams
- A natural mentor who uplifts others while maintaining high standards
