Looking for a U.S.-based WordPress developer to join me on custom theme projects (1099, flexible hours, ongoing work)
About Me / Solidago
Hi, I’m Sunny Wanser, a freelance web developer and consultant based in Nebraska. I’ve been building custom WordPress websites for over a decade, working with nonprofits, SaaS companies, and businesses of all sizes. I recently launched Solidago, my boutique studio, where I focus on creating accessible, user-friendly, and scalable digital solutions.
I’m at the stage where client work is growing, and I’m looking to bring on reliable developers to collaborate with me on projects. The Solidago site is still in progress (cobbler’s kids, no shoes!), so you’ll see this application hosted on my personal site for now.
About the Role
We’re looking for a freelance WordPress developer to help with ongoing client projects. This is a flexible, remote role on a 1099 basis for U.S.-based contractors only. You’ll collaborate with me on building and maintaining custom WordPress sites that balance functionality, clean design, and client needs.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain custom WordPress themes
- Work with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF Pro) to create flexible and reusable components
- Implement responsive front-end layouts with modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Troubleshoot and resolve plugin, theme, and hosting issues
- Occasionally interact with clients in a professional, solutions-oriented manner
What We’re Looking For
- Must be located in the United States and able to work as a 1099 contractor
- Experience building custom themes (Underscores, block-based, or from scratch)
- Familiarity with ACF Pro and general WordPress best practices
- Comfort with Git version control and common workflows (branching, pull requests)
- Strong communication skills; ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Bonus: experience with CI/CD, WooCommerce, or animation libraries (GSAP, Framer Motion, etc.)
How to Apply
Please complete the application form on my website.
Other Details
- This is freelance/contract work, hourly rate DOE
- Flexible hours; most communication is async with occasional meetings
- Potential for ongoing work if it’s a good fit
