Overview
Our church is seeking an independent WordPress Developer to manage and maintain our WordPress-based website integrated with Subsplash for sermons, events, and online giving. With our current designer leaving in two weeks, we need an urgent handover to ensure continuity, followed by ongoing support. This role is ideal for a freelancer with experience in church or nonprofit websites, WordPress customization, and Subsplash integrations. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we seek competitive rates and a faith-aligned professional to join our mission.
Responsibilities
Urgent Handover (First 2 Weeks): Audit existing WordPress site and Subsplash integrations, secure access to all accounts (hosting, domain, CMS, Subsplash), and create full backups. Document processes for basic updates (e.g., event postings, sermon uploads).
Website Maintenance: Perform regular updates to WordPress core, themes, and plugins. Ensure Subsplash features (sermons, giving, events, app syncing) remain functional and optimized.
Content Updates: Manage frontend updates, including service times, event calendars, sermon media, and blog posts, using WordPress dashboard and Subsplash tools.
Technical Support: Troubleshoot issues (e.g., broken links, form errors), optimize site speed, and ensure mobile responsiveness and SEO for local searches (e.g., “church near me”).
Security & Backups: Implement security measures (e.g., Wordfence, SSL) and schedule automated backups to prevent data loss.
Optional Redesign: Propose and implement minor design tweaks or full redesigns to enhance user experience, if needed (budget TBD).
Qualifications
Proven experience as a WordPress Developer, with a portfolio showcasing church or nonprofit websites.
Familiarity with Subsplash integrations (e.g., media players, donation forms, event management, or app syncing).
Proficiency in WordPress CMS, themes (e.g., Divi, Astra), and plugins (e.g., Yoast SEO, UpdraftPlus).
Knowledge of HTML/CSS; PHP and JavaScript a plus for customizations.
Strong communication skills for remote collaboration and training non-technical church staff/volunteers.
Ability to meet tight deadlines (2-week handover critical).
Understanding of church needs (e.g., sermon libraries, giving platforms) and nonprofit budget constraints.
Bonus: Experience with SEO, Google Analytics, or church management tools like Planning Center.
