We had a plugin go rogue (WP Botwatch) and create and publish duplicate pages/posts with over 14,000 custom URL parameters that were indexed by Google — causing our landing pages and overall site to lose their rankings.
We have uninstalled the plugin but can see in Google Search Console that the plugin is still creating and monitoring these URLs. (We did instruct google to stop crawling these URL’s a few days back but are unclear if this is working.)
We were advised by our hosting company that the best solution is a full database clean-up, but since they created the plugin and now refuse to support it, we’d love a second opinion on the best way to proceed!
In an ideal world, you would:
-eliminate the plugins ability to create these custom URL’s permanently
-remove anything this plugin has left behind in the database
-also clean-up anything else old/unused in the database
